Calathea Ornata aka Pin-stripe Calathea
Calathea ornata, also known as the Pinstripe Calathea, is a popular tropical plant belonging to the Marantaceae family. It is native to the rainforests of South America, particularly found in regions like Brazil.
Calathea ornata is appreciated for its striking appearance. It has glossy, broad, elliptical leaves with deep green coloration and prominent pink to white stripes running parallel to the veins.
It is a compact plant with a clumping habit, typically growing up to 2 to 3 feet in height, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation.
Calathea ornata prefers bright, indirect light, and warm temperatures between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C). It also requires high humidity levels to mimic its natural rainforest environment. If the air is too dry, the leaf edges may turn brown or crispy.
It is important to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. A well-draining, peat-based potting mix with added perlite or vermiculite is ideal for Calathea ornata.
Like many other members of the Marantaceae family, Calathea ornata is non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans.
